Starting the Net
Net Preamble (8:00 PM Local Time):
Attention all stations, this is [YOUR CALL] Good evening and welcome to the Waushara Area Auxiliary Radio Net.
This is a directed net. All transmissions should be made at the direction of Net Control, except in the case of emergency traffic. This repeater will remain open for emergency use at all times.
When checking in, please state your callsign phonetically, your name, location, and whether you have any traffic for the net."
Net Control Introduction:
"This is [YOUR CALL], Net Control for this evening’s WAARN Net. My name is [YOUR NAME], and I am located in [YOUR LOCATION].
This net meets every Tuesday at 8:00 PM local time on the Wautoma Repeater,
In the event of repeater failure, operations will move to our designated Alternate repeater.
The purpose of this net is to facilitate information exchange, provide training opportunities, and support emergency communications preparedness."
Emergency and Priority Traffic:
"Before we begin, is there any emergency or priority traffic? If so, please call Net Control now."
Formal Written Traffic:
"Is there any formal written traffic for the net? If so, please call Net Control now."
Check-Ins:
Short-time, portable, or mobile stations – "Please check in now."
All other stations, with or without traffic – "Please check in now."

Traffic and Announcements:
Net Control Announcements: Announcements of General interest to the group, such as:
· 1. Next week, rather than the next we will have our monthly meeting
· 2. Training opportunity – An ICS-100 class is being scheduled.
· 3. Hospital exercise with Wild Rose will be on Tuesday
If there is traffic for the Net "We will now proceed with handling any traffic or announcements for the net. Stations with traffic, please go ahead."
General Discussion (Optional at NCS Discretion): If time permits, state:
“We will now open the floor for any brief discussion items from net participants. Please call Net Control if you have a topic to share."
Closing the Net:
"Before we close, are there any final check-ins or comments?"

Primary Repeater: Coloma WISCOMM 147.105+ (PL 123)
Alternate Repeater: Wautoma 147.285+ (PL 123)
(Initiated by first operator recognizing need for activation)
“Attention all stations, attention all stations. This is CALLSIGNCALLSIGNCALLSIGN activating the Waushara and Marquette Amateur Radio Network—WAARN—for a Severe Weather Net. This is a directed net. Please hold all traffic unless called by Net Control.”
“This net is being established on the Coloma WISCOMM repeater, 147.105 plus offset, PL 123. If this repeater becomes unavailable, the alternate repeater is the Wautoma 147.285 plus offset, PL 123.”
“The purpose of this net is to collect and relay real-time severe weather reports for Waushara and Marquette Counties. Reports will be forwarded to the National Weather Service and local emergency management as needed.”
The first operator to establish the net serves as Primary Net Control Station (NCS).
The next available operator should acknowledge and assume the role of Alternate NCS (ANCS) in case the primary is lost.
Net Control maintains order, prioritizes traffic, and ensures reports are passed accurately.
“At this time, I will take check-ins for the Severe Weather Net. Please give your callsign slowly and phonetically, along with your location. Stations with emergency or priority traffic may break in at any time by stating ‘Emergency’ or ‘Priority.’ All other stations, please stand by until acknowledged.”

Net Control should remind operators:
Report only when you observe:
Tornadoes or funnel clouds
Wall clouds or rotating clouds
Winds 58 mph or greater (measured or estimated)
Hail 1 inch diameter or larger
Flooding, flash flooding, or washouts
Heavy rain causing reduced visibility or hazardous conditions
Snowfall 2 inches or more per hour
Ice accumulation creating dangerous travel or downed lines
Significant storm damage (trees, power lines, structures)
Do NOT report: lightning, thunder, or minor rain unless specifically requested.
“When making a report, please provide:
Your callsign and location,
The weather element observed,
The time of the observation,
Any damage or impact.”**
(Example: “This is N9XXX in Wautoma. 1-inch hail observed at 1935 hours, covering the ground.”)
NCS periodically requests situation updates from outlying areas.
Priority is given to time-sensitive or hazardous reports.
ANCS monitors the net, logs traffic, and is prepared to take over if NCS is lost.
“When leaving the net, please advise Net Control so we can update our accountability log.”
(Example: “This is K9ABC, checking out of the net.”)
When the threat has passed or NWS cancels warnings:
“Hearing no further reports and with the weather threat subsiding, this is CALLSIGN CALLSIGN CALLSIGN closing the Waushara and Marquette Amateur Radio Network Severe Weather Net. We thank all stations for their participation. The repeater is now returned to normal amateur use. This is CALLSIGNCALLSIGNCALLSIGN, OUT.”

This net is being conducted on the Wautoma Repeater, 147.285 plus offset, PL 123. If unavailable, the secondary repeater is our designated alternate repeater.
This is an exercise. The purpose of this activation test is to simulate a real-world AUXCOMM / CERT deployment, exercise disciplined communications, and confirm operator readiness. This is an exercise.”
“Any station with emergency or priority traffic, call now. All other traffic will be held. This is an exercise.”

Assignments:
Stations may be tasked to monitor other channels, report to the EOC, hospitals, or field points. Assignments will be given by Net Control
Operators are requested to monitor this circuit until assignments
Deployment Announcements:
Deployment orders will be given via this repeater by the Net Control Station. When instructed, acknowledge assignment, confirm readiness, and simulate movement as if deploying with your go-kit. - Do not self-deploy.
Check-Out Procedures:
Any station leaving the exercise must notify Net Control before securing.
Upon simulated return from assignment, stations will check back in for accountability.
